Summer Actuarial Program
AXA Equitable offers one of the most highly regarded summer actuarial programs in the country. Each summer, we invite a select group of talented college students to spend ten weeks in New York City to learn about the actuarial profession. For over 35 years, our program has provided summer interns with an in-depth look at a challenging and exciting career.
What The Program Offers
Our program combines on-the-job training with formal study. For three-quarters of your time, you will work on projects within an AXA Equitable business unit, gaining firsthand experience with the techniques used to solve insurance business problems. Working closely with members of our actuarial staff, you will receive the personal attention and guidance that will allow you to make a meaningful contribution to the work of the department.
The remainder of your time will be devoted to more formal study. In the first few weeks, math classes will familiarize you with material covered on early actuarial exams. You will be expected to devote time outside office hours to homework assignments. Later in the summer you will give a 20-minute oral presentation on an assigned topic. In addition, we will also have guest speakers from our marketing and investment staffs to provide you with further insight into the operation of a large financial services company.
The Intern Experience
Our offices are conveniently located in the heart of mid-town Manhattan, across from Radio City Music Hall and near Rockefeller Center. Our salaries are highly competitive and vary according to your exam level. In addition, we arrange for free dormitory accommodations for the ten weeks of the internship. AXA Equitable also will reimburse you for reasonable travel expenses to and from New York City at the beginning and end of the internship.
Although our summer program is rigorous, our interns have found their summer in New York City to be a very enjoyable experience. There is ample time to explore the diverse offerings of New York City and the surrounding areas. In addition, we organize many events in which actuaries and full-time actuarial trainees also participate. These include softball games in Central Park, a visit to Chinatown/Little Italy, and a Mets or Yankees baseball game, to name a few.
Applicant Qualifications
We typically select college juniors, but will accept sophomores who have demonstrated exceptional ability. Preference will be given to students who have passed one or more actuarial exams.
A high academic standing and a strong math aptitude are essential. You should also possess the ability to think creatively, to express your thoughts clearly, and to work effectively with others.
