Nick Lane
Nick Lane is senior executive vice president for AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company and president of the company’s Retirement Savings division. Mr. Lane also serves on the company’s Executive Committee and as chairman and CEO of AXA Distributors, LLC, the wholesale distribution company for AXA Equitable.
Mr. Lane heads the company’s Individual Annuity and Employer-Sponsored Business divisions. His responsibilities include the product development, manufacturing, and sales of fixed and variable annuities, including the company’s 401(k) and 403(b) products. AXA Equitable’s annuity products are distributed to individuals and plan sponsors and their employees through its proprietary retail distribution channel, AXA Advisors, LLC and through third-party intermediaries affiliated with AXA Distributors. Mr. Lane also manages the in-force and customer service business units.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Lane served as senior vice president of Business Support Development for the U.S. and asset management operations for AXA Equitable’s parent company, Paris-based AXA Group. He also served as head of Strategic Planning for AXA Group. In this capacity, Mr. Lane played an integral role in defining the strategic direction for AXA Group and collaborated with senior leadership teams in the U.S. to identify executive business objectives.
He also played key roles as a member of the boards that oversee AXA Equitable, AllianceBernstein, AXA Investment Managers, AXA Private Equity and AXA Reinsurance Ireland.
Mr. Lane joined AXA Equitable in 2005 as vice president and founding member of the Strategic Initiatives Group. He was promoted a year later to senior vice president of Retail Distribution platforms, where he was responsible for enterprise operations and risk supervisory systems. He was also later appointed to vice chairman of AXA Network, LLC, an insurance brokerage affiliate. In this role he was responsible for overseeing the company’s Retail Broker Dealer and the distribution of non-proprietary life insurance and annuity products. Mr. Lane also served as a director on the boards for AXA Advisors and AXA Network.
Before joining AXA Equitable, Mr. Lane was a leader in the sales and marketing practice of the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
He holds a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Mr. Lane also served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.
