Richard V. Silver

Richard V. Silver is a senior executive vice president, chief administrative officer and chief legal officer for AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company. Mr. Silver is also a member of the company’s Executive Management Group. 

Mr. Silver oversees Central Marketing, Innovation and Communications; External Affairs; the Funds Management Group; Information Technology and the Strategic Initiatives Group. He is also the head of the Law Department.  

Mr. Silver joined AXA Equitable’s Law Department as an attorney in 1986. From 1991 through 1994, he was president and chief operating officer of AXA Advisors, LLC, the company’s broker/dealer and retail distribution channel. He returned to the Law Department in 1995 and held a series of management positions, becoming general counsel of AXA Equitable in 1999 and executive vice president and general counsel of AXA Financial, Inc. in 2001.

Before joining AXA Equitable, Mr. Silver was a vice president and senior securities attorney with a subsidiary of Merrill Lynch.  He began his career at the law firm of Cahill Gordon & Reindel.  

Since 1995, Mr. Silver has served as an industry representative and chair of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s (FINRA) Variable Insurance Product Committee, Compliance Resources and Education Committee, and Independent Dealer/Insurance Affiliate Committee.  He also has served on various other committees and subcommittees of industry organizations.

Mr. Silver earned a B.A. in government and politics from St. John’s University and a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, where he was publications editor of the St. John’s Law Review.
