Key Features

A Cost-effective Approach for Retirement

EQUI-VEST® 457(b) EDC is a cost-effective group variable deferred annuity contract1 that offers employees a convenient way to contribute and invest for retirement.

This contract is designed specifically for plans of:

  • State, County and Local Government Agencies
  • Tax-Exempt Organizations (Only for certain highly- compensated employees or a select group of management.)

Contributions to, and any earnings within, an EQUI-VEST® 457(b) EDC are not subject to federal income tax until they are withdrawn. Since contributions are made on a pre-tax basis, taxable income is reduced and immediate tax savings are obtained.

Variable deferred annuities are long-term retirement contracts designed to accumulate funds and then to provide lifetime payments. There are fees and charges associated with annuities, which include, but are not limited to, mortality and expense risk charges, sales and withdrawal charges, and administrative fees.

3 Internal Revenue Code Section 457 places restrictions on certain withdrawals from
457(b) plans. The premature distribution penalty that generally applies to qualified retirement plans does not apply to IRC Section 457 plans except to the extent that the distribution is attributable to rollovers from a 403(b) or other qualified plan.
