AXA Equitable Names William Whitsell Vice President, Underwriting and New Business Administration
Charlotte, NC - June 30, 2008 - AXA Equitable Life Insurance Co. announced today that William Whitsell has joined the company's National Operations Center (NOC) in Charlotte as Vice President of Underwriting and New Business Administration. The announcement was made by Kathleen Adamson, Senior Vice President of Service Delivery for AXA Equitable.
Mr. Whitsell is responsible for the direction, leadership and management of the Underwriting and New Business Service Operations. His primary focus will be to enhance the capability and flexibility of these units to support the continued growth and diversification of the company's life product portfolio. He is responsible for ensuring that underwriting performs accurate and consistent risk selection to assure appropriate premium levels and mortality charges. Mr. Whitsell also is charged with developing, implementing and consistently monitoring policies, goals, and standards to evaluate performance and satisfaction of customers and employees.
"Bill's leadership of the NOC's New Business and Underwriting team will further position AXA Equitable as a leading insurance provider in the marketplace," said Ms. Adamson. "His breadth and depth of industry knowledge and experience will complement the strength and expertise of our existing team members."
Prior to joining AXA Equitable, Mr. Whitsell held various leadership positions at ALLIED Life Insurance Company, Great Southern Life Insurance Company and SCOR Life Reinsurance Company.
Most recently, Mr. Whitsell worked for New York Life Insurance Company and was responsible for processing over 100,000 new applications and policy change requests per year. While there, he implemented a formalized underwriting training and development program that provided advanced medical knowledge to the staff. He was also a member of the New York Life Best Practices Group that formulated underwriting controls and guidelines.
Mr. Whitsell attended the University of Northern Iowa and is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He has earned certificates from Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU), and has a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) professional designation from the The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. Active in the industry, he is a member of the Association of Customer Service (ACS) and America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).
